BERGEN, NORWAY JUNE 12 - JUNE 22, 2010

LidalNorth International Opera Workshop will join forces with Den Nye Opera's (The New Opera) YoungOpera Summer Academy in Bergen this year, creating an innovative and exciting program!

All participants may have additional performance opportunities, including chorus participation in Den Nye Opera's production of Verdi's La Traviata, as well as the final Grand Concert. Please contact John Lidal if you are interested in the requirements associated with these performance opportunities.

Lidal North Participants will receive at least:

  • Voice lessons with Ms. McCaffrey
  • Coachings
  • Unlimited ability to observe lessons
  • Participation in masterclasses and concerts

Singers must provide their own transportation to and from Bergen

Bergenhus Fortress is located next to Bryggen in Bergen, and is a distinguished landmark for those who arrive in Bergen by sea. The Grieg Academy comprises both artistic and scientific disciplines, and offers courses of study in Performance, Composition, Music Pedagogy, Music Therapy, Ethnomusicology and Musicology. The Grieg Hall (Norwegian: Grieghallen) is a 1,500 seat concert hall in Bergen, Norway. It has been the home of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra since the hall's completion in 1978. It hosted the Eurovision Song Contest in 1986, and is the host of the annual Norwegian Brass Band Championship competition, which occurs in mid-winter. The hall is named after Bergen-born composer Edvard Grieg, who was music director of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra from 1880 until 1882. www.grieghallen.no

Troldhaugen consists of the Edvard Grieg Museum, Grieg's villa, the hut where he composed music, and his gravesite. It also includes Troldsalen, a concert hall with seating for 200 visitors, which is the centre for Troldhougen's extensive concert activity. MAKRIGIALOS, CRETE (GREECE) JULY 3 - JULY 13, 2010

NEW THIS YEAR! LidalNorth goes south - to Makrigialos, located at the magical island of Crete!

We will be offering 9 days of voice lessons, coachings, and masterclasses.

Fee: $1800 US

The fee includes 12 nights in comfortable apartments in The White Houses in Makrigialos, as well as 9 days of tuition.

The students will receive a minimum of 2 sessions daily of instruction.

The apartments have double rooms and single rooms. There will, however, be ONE price for all, $1800, regardless of single or double room occupancy. Individual rooms with double beds are reserved couples. After the application deadline, any remaining individual rooms with double beds will be offered in the order the applications were confirmed.

The teaching will take place at the CASA DEI MEZZO proper, as well as at the local music school. Students who are accepted, are also encouraged to use their apartments as a place to practice, and to bring a small electrical piano, or similar.

This workshop is a joint venture between CASA DEI MEZZO and LIDALNORTH INTERNATIONAL OPERA WORKSHOP. 15 students will be admitted to partake in the workshop. Please apply early.
